VIANOVATOJES PARIS: TOURIST METRO CIRCUIT

PARIS TOURIST METRO CIRCUIT
In this blog I show you how I organized my visits to the city of Paris using the  Parisian METRO network 🚇 . For only  30.10 euros (2024)  using the  ""PARIS VISIT"" pass  I enjoyed 3 days of unlimited travel through  MONUMENTAL PARIS . I was able to visit the most important monuments and even had time to rest and relax at the hostel after meals.

On my blog 👉🔗 VIANOVATOJES PARIS: METRO AND MONUMEMTS  you can locate the most important monuments and their reference metro stations.
Unlike the previous entries, at the end of the page I will comment on everything related to flights and the stay in Paris.

MONUMENTAL CIRCUIT:
  PARIS METRO

When preparing this trip, I tried to  devise a route using the metro network  that would allow me to visit the monuments of Paris  without having to make any transfers,  and that would allow me to arrive right at the head of the monument or close to it.

There are several areas on this route that, due to their proximity and beauty, were worth  enjoying with a leisurely and peaceful stroll,  such as, for example, the entire downtown area that borders the Basilica of the NOTRE DAME cathedral or the route from the TROCADERO square to the EIFFEL TOWER and viewing it from the CHAMP DE MARS esplanade.
On the map, our friend  "PARISPASSUS" ➨ will suggest which areas are worth visiting on foot, or at least, the ones I did following his valuable advice. Below I show you step by step and in detail how I developed this route.

  • ROUTE (B)  ➧ Take  (line 6) direction NATION towards the BIR HAKEIM   " TOUR EIFFEL "     metro station (stop, currently closed for works until February 2024) to continue to MONTPARNASSE BIENVENUE and at another time visit the Invalides and Musée D'Orsay (metro SOLFERINO L-12 ).

🚇  SAINT - MICHEL  or CITE ( NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL )

HISTORICAL CENTER

From the metro stations " SAINT-MICHEL " or " CITE " the distances to the surrounding monuments are short and worth exploring on foot, admiring the typical Parisian architecture.

There are two other important metro stations very close to the previous ones, from where you can walk around the historic centre in a short time:
  1. CHATELET metro station   where lines 1  - 7  -  11  -  14 converge
  2. Metro station  🚇HOTEL LA VILLE  (lines 1 and 11)  from where you can access in a short walk: GEORGES PONPIDOU (6 minutes), NOTRE DAME (7 minutes), PANTHEON (23 minutes), MUSEE DU LUVRE (17 minutes).
Here are the metro stops that I consider to be closest to these monuments in case you don't feel like walking:
  • C. GEORGES POMPIDOU:
    • ➽  🚇RAMBUTEAU  (line 11)
  • LOUVRE MUSEUM:
    • ➽  🚇PALAIS ROYAL MUSEE DU LUVRE  (lines 1 and 7)
  • PANTHEON:
    • ➽  🚇MAUBERT MUTUALITE  (line 10) , walking about 6 or 7 minutes.
If you want more information about the metro stations and the nearest monuments, as well as the lines that lead to the main monuments of PARIS, I leave you this link to my own blog:

PRECAUTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

In any case, once you have planned your route, I recommend checking the Paris transport website for any changes or line closures before planning your trip:  REGIE AUTONOME DES TRANSPORTS PARISIENS (RATP) . For example, during my visit, the BIR-HAKEIM station next to the Eiffel Tower was closed   for renovations and will remain so until February 2024.

As for  SECURITY ON THE METRO , it is no less important than that of the metro in BARCELONA or MADRID. Certain precautions must be taken, such as carrying your wallet and documents in your front pockets. In case of a crowd, place your backpack in the front and always keep the zippers well closed. Of course, forget about looking like a tourist.

STAY IN PARIS

FLIGHTS

Flight from Alicante airport with a low-cost airline:  102.98 euros round trip .
Arrival airport  PARIS ORLY , is located approximately 14 km from Paris.

ORLY PARIS AIRPORT

There are several means of transport to get to Paris:  train (RER B), tram, bus, taxi ... Countless pages on the Internet describe in detail how to use them.

In my case, after considering the various options, I opted for the  "ORLYBUS" bus . I don't know if it is the best option, but for me it was the easiest to use.
ORLY BUS : As soon as you leave Terminal 1, on the right you will see the stop in front of Terminals 2 and 3.

The BUS' DESTINATION is  PLAZA DEFERT - ROCHEREAU  (where the PARIS CATACOMBUES are located ) , right next to it there is a  metro stop:  DEFERT - ROCHEREAU  which connects with  lines 4 and 6  of the METRO.

I bought the tickets from a vending machine next to the bus stop. They are available in several languages, including Spanish:
👉🔗 PARIS METRO TICKET MACHINE .

Line 4  runs through the centre of Paris and stops at the  CHATELET metro station , a railway hub that connects with metro lines  1  - 7  -  11  -  14 , which is important if you need to travel to other areas of Paris by metro.

BUS TO THE AIRPORT

As I have used this means of transport to get to the city centre, among other reasons for convenience, I will briefly describe the bus connections to the three Paris airports. There are countless pages on the web that inform you how to get from the airports to the centre of Paris by other means.

  • ORLYBUS  connects PARIS-ORLY Airport  (ORY)  to PLAZA DEFERT-ROCHEREAU (RER B, lines 4 and 6).
  • ROISSYBUS  connects CHARLES DE GAULLE airport  (CDG) to PARIS-OPERA, next to the OPERA GARNIER (RER A, lines 3 - 7 - 8).
  • BUS BEAUVAIS-PARIS  connects BEAUVAIS airport (BVA)  with destination PLACE DE LA PORTE MALLIOT next to the PARIS congress palace (RER C, line 1).
ACCOMMODATION
This time I stayed in a hostel located in the 19th district, about 100 meters from a metro stop on line 7. Price for 4 nights 207 euros . A hostel with bunk beds located in a room with curtains, which allowed you extra privacy from the rest of the guests.

PARIS VISITS
It is a public transport pass that allows you to travel on the metro, bus, RER, tram, etc., unlimitedly during the period of its validity.

It is ""important"" that you fill out the ticket with your details, the start date and the end date of the voucher. In the three days I was stopped at 2 inspection checkpoints inside the tunnels, the control is methodical, they are stationed at the tunnel crossings and there is no escape route.

VALIDITY PERIOD:  Full days: 1 to 5 days. You can choose the days that interest you the most. I purchased a three-day pass.

EXISTING AREAS:  Includes the areas where you can use the means of transport to move around Paris (metro, city buses, trams, etc.).
  • Zone 1-3  includes the entire historic center up to EL ARCO DE LA DEFENSE.
  • Zone 1-5  includes the historic centre and transport to CHARLES DE GAULLE AND ORLY airports, VERSAILLES AND DISNEYLAND.
In my case I chose the  PARIS VISIT zones 1-3 pass   for  3 days
➽ Amount  30.10 euros.
➽ I paid for the airport transfer separately:  11.20 euros . In total, the 2 trips to the airport plus the PARIS VISIT voucher cost me  52.5 euros .
➽ Since I did not visit VERSAILLES or DISNEYLAND I was not interested in getting the  1-5 zone pass  for very little money (cost  $60.70 ), but very interesting if you plan to visit these places.

In addition to the physical points of sale located in practically all metro stations, tickets can be purchased at METRO TICKET VENDING MACHINES. In the following link I show you a brief summary of how to do it (October 2023):

To finish off the following blog, I will detail what I consider to be the most important monuments in Paris and the nearest metro stations.

If you suffer from claustrophobia or the metro scares you, there is a network of surface buses that is just as comprehensive as the metro. As a last resort, you can book excursions through travel agencies or use the tourist bus.

Finally, for those of you who have never used the METRO, on the following page I will briefly show you how it works 👉🔗 How the metro works
