VIANOVATOJES MADRID: MONUMENTS AND SUBWAY

VIANOVATOJES MADRID: MONUMENTS AND SUBWAY. Visit in August 2024 through the cosmopolitan and monumental city of Madrid, alternating walks with the use of the Madrid metro network.

On this occasion, unlike the trips to Paris and London, where using the metro network, in the first case, I organized myself through a circular circuit and in London I divided the city into 4 tourist sectors, on this trip, MADRID: MONUMENTS AND METRO , I have planned it in such a way that all the routes converge on a central axis: The " SOL METRO STATION ".

All routes start from the " METRO SOL " Station:

1) ROUTE 1: Route of the Madrid of the Austrias.

2) ROUTE 2: Where the most important museums in the city are located.

3) ROUTE 3: Green route, includes Retiro Park and the Botanical Garden

4) PLACES OF INTEREST: Not included in the previous routes.

PREVIOUSLY: MADRID METRO.

I basically only used 3 metro lines:

LINE 1 LIGHT BLUE color
LINE 2 in RED
LINE 3 YELLOW color

I purchased the " 10 TRIPS " VOUCHER, which cost 6.10 euros in August 2024 .

To travel on the Madrid metro you must first purchase a RECHARGEABLE card ➨" MULTI CARD " for 2.50 euros (08/2024). You can recharge it with individual tickets or with the "10 TRIPS" pass.

In total on this trip I spent two "BONOS 10" (apart from the monuments you have to travel to your accommodation and leisure areas) plus the "MULTI CARD". Total: 14.7 euros.

I recommend checking the official Madrid metro website to see if there have been any changes, construction work or line extensions.

A) MADRID: MONUMENTS ROUTE 1

Start at " METRO SOL ":

We begin the tour at PUERTA DEL SOL .
PLAZA MAYOR , along Calle Mayor, 🏃4 minutes walk.
ALMUDENA CATHEDRAL AND CRYPT , on Calle Mayor, 🏃 8 minutes walk.
ROYAL PALACE , on Viaducto Bailén Street, 🏃 4 minutes walk.
TEATRO REAL , by Plaza Oriente, 🏃 5 minutes round trip.
PLAZA DE ISABEL II , 🏃behind the Teatro Real.
SENATE , 🏃next to Viaducto Bailén Street in Plaza Marina Española.
PLAZA DE ESPAÑA , from the Royal Palace in 🏃4 minutes walking along C/Viaducto Bailén.
MONUMENT TO CERVANTES , in the Plaza de España.
DEBOD TEMPLE , on Ferraz Street, 🏃 8 minutes walk.
DUKE OF LIRIA PALACE , on Luisa Fernanda Street, 🏃 6 minutes walk.

Right in front of the Palacio Duque de Liria, we find the metro station " METRO VENTURA RODRIGUEZ ", just going down a few steps, practically at street level, we have the metro, we take line 3 ➨ direction " VILLAVERDE ALTO " that will take us to the start of the next route " ESTACIÓN DE METRO SOL ".

B) MADRID: MONUMENTS ROUTE 2

Start at PUERTA DEL SOL SQUARE :

TELEFONICA BUILDING , we go up from PUERTA DEL SOL along C/ de la Montera, 🏃 6 minutes walk.
METROPOLIS BUILDING , on Gran Via, 🏃 6 minutes walk.
BANK OF SPAIN , on Gran Via, 🏃 9 minutes walk.
PLAZA CIBELES , we continue along C/ de Alcalá,🏃 2 minutes walking.
NATIONAL LIBRARY , on Paseo de Recoletos, 🏃 8 minutes walk.
WAX MUSEUM , 🏃in front of the National Library.
PLAZA COLON , 🏃later the National Library.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM , on the right in Plaza Colon, 🏃 3 minutes walking.
PUERTA DE ALCALA , along Serrano Street, 🏃 9 minutes walk.
PLAZA CIBELES , we return along C/ de Alcalá, 🏃 6 minutes walking.
NAVAL MUSEUM , we go down Paseo del Prado, 🏃 5 minutes walking.
MADRID STOCK EXCHANGE , we continue along Paseo del Prado, 🏃 3 minutes walking.
THYSSEN BORNEMISZA MUSEUM , opposite the Madrid Stock Exchange, 🏃 4 minutes walk.
CONGRESS OF DEPUTIES , round trip, 🏃 8 minutes walking in each direction along Carrera de San Gerónimo.
PRADO MUSEUM , on Paseo del Prado, 🏃 4 minutes walk from the Madrid Stock Exchange.
REINA SOFIA MUSEUM , on Paseo del Prado, 🏃 9 minutes walk from the Prado Museum.

Two options:

Finish ROUTE 2, take the METRO at the " ESTACIÓN DE ARTE ", return to PLAZA PUERTA DEL SOL taking line 1 ➨ direction " PINAR DE CHAMARTIN ", treat yourself to a well-deserved rest in LA PUERTA DEL SOL or the surrounding area and at another time take ROUTE 3.
Continue along route 3 ( BOTANICAL GARDEN AND RETIRO PARK ), end at " METRO RETIRO " and return to PUERTA DEL SOL ( line 2 ➨ direction " CUATRO CAMINOS ").

C) MADRID: MONUMENTS ROUTE 3

Includes Retiro Park and the Botanical Garden.

I left it for the afternoon of the last day of my visit. We can start at the METRO station " RETIRO " (from METRO SOL line 2 ) and finish at the " ESTACIÓN DE ARTE " or the other way around, start at the metro station " ESTACIÓN DE ARTE " (from METRO SOL line 1 ) do the route and finish at the METRO station " RETIRO ".

This last one was the route I took, so I ended up at the " RETIRO " METRO station and taking metro line 5 I visited the PLAZA DE TOROS DE LAS VENTAS .

It is best to start the visit in the BOTANICAL GARDEN and then allow ourselves a quiet and relaxing walk through the large park of PARQUE DEL RETIRO, with the option of having a snack at one of the kiosks along the way.

Start at the METRO station " ART STATION ".
BOTANICAL GARDEN , 🏃 6 minutes walk from the "ART STATION" metro station.
CRYSTAL PALACE ,🏃 14 minutes walk from the Botanical Garden.
VELAZQUEZ PALACE ,🏃 5 minutes walk from the Crystal Palace.
ALFONSO XII POND AND MONUMENT , 🏃 5 minutes walk from Palacio Velazquez.
" RETIRO " METRO Station , 🏃 8 minutes walk from the Pond.

From the " RETIRO " metro station take metro line 2 ➨ direction " CUATRO CAMINOS " and end at PLAZA DEL SOL.

!!!!IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!

Visiting the most important museums can take quite a long time, you may need to spend just one day there, so the best option is to start the tour of these three museums from the " ESTACIÓN DE ARTE " metro station .

METRO: ART STATION ➨ 2 minutes walk to REINA SOFIA MUSEUM .
METRO: ARTE STATION ➨ 9 minutes walk to MUSEO DEL PRADO .
METRO: ARTE STATION ➨ 16 minutes walk to THYSSEN MUSEUM .
